About the Author:

Kathryn L. Knapp is a freelance journalist. She attended Indiana University from 1994-1999. Originally from Hammond, IN, Knapp developed a passion for soccer by following her high school team in the early 1990s. In 1994, Knapp attended her first adidas Classic and hasn’t missed one since.

Knapp joined the Arbutus Yearbook staff at IU in 1995 as the sports editor. It was then that she began to cover men’s soccer. Through her tenure at IU, Knapp served as sports editor of the yearbook three times as well as editor in chief in 1997-98. She also took a job as soccer columnist in 1998. Being an avid believer in men’s soccer, Knapp pushed for the program to get coverage.

After graduating from IU with a BA in Journalism in 1999, Knapp had an internship at the Chicago Fire. She spent 11 months there before returning back to mainstream America. She now works as a freelance journalist covering Major League Soccer and the Hoosiers.

Knapp decided to write a book on IU men’s soccer for one simple reason – it was a story that needed to be told.

“Anyone who has spent any time around IU soccer understands the importance of the program,” Knapp said. “It’s one-of-a-kind. There is not a more loyal family out there than that of IU soccer. And as for tradition, it doesn’t get much better than Jerry Yeagley spending 41 years at IU and turning a club team into the top team in the nation.”
